Closely tied to the history of Rioja wines ever since 1852 and surrounded by the magnificent 300-hectare Finca Ygay estate, the bodega has been totally brought up to date and in 2015 was declared the best wine cellar in the world . Held up as a benchmark for quality, its wines can be found in over 100 countries.
LThe history of the Marqués de Murrieta wine cellar goes hand in hand with the origins of Rioja, when Don Luciano Murrieta brought back to Spain the methods he had learned in his travels to Bordeaux and started to make the first Rioja wines and years later he would also be the first to export them beyond the national territory. He set up a bodega in the Finca Ygay estate, with over 300 hectares of its own vineyards, surrounding the emblematic Castillo de Ygay, the original cellar which was constructed in the style of the French “château”, which has now been declared a museum.
Since 1983, the Cebrián-Sagarriga family continue his legacy at the head of the Marqués de Murrieta Estates & Wines, a family brought up in the tradition of hard work and dedication, day in day out, who have totally renewed the bodega, achieving a balance of tradition and modernity, in order to earn wide recognition and a presence in over 100 countries and to position their wines as benchmarks of quality in the world of Rioja wines.
